AREA SUMMARY: SNOWKRAFT cross country skiing includes a nice mix of small, easy rollers and flatter terrain on the main loop, and an intermediate/advanced area of 2.5 miles, (with an ADVANCED ONLY section of 2 climbs and descents in the south corner of this) that has been designed to be soley climb and descent with some relatively long climbs for the area. With all trails relatively wide for skating, classic skiers may want to head to Whitefish Dunes, (my favorite-10 Miles from SNOWKRAFT) Peninsula Park (20 Miles), or relatively remote Newport Park (40 Miles), which may or may not be groomed. Note that for beginning classic skiers SNOWKRAFT is an excellent choice due to levelness of trails and grooming quality. SNOWKRAFT is open to the public but skis more like a private course due to the owners attention to grooming and relatively low number of skiers. With over 250 dump truck loads of dirt used to level the trails, skiing is posssible in 2 inches of wet snow. BEGINNERS: A great place to learn due to wide, level, immaculately groomed trails. A good selection of easy terrain. ADVANCED: New this year 2010-11 a totally redesigned orchard section with 1 more climb and 23% more trail than 2009-10.

SKATING: SNOWKRAFT ski area is primarily a skating center. There is close to ZERO% off camber- all off camber was leveled.  A portion of downhills are banked. The area is really a skate park with a diagonal track laid to be complete.

CLASSIC: With ski skating the areas main focus, classic skiing is not given the extreme attention to detail that it could be, however there is usually a quality classic track which most people who ski here say is the best in Door County.

OTHER DOOR COUNTY SKI AREA CHOICES

If you are mainly interested in narrower width classic trails we recommend Whitefish Dunes State Park nearby (10 Miles from SK). This is my favorite classic area. Peninsula Park (22 Miles) also has a good selection of classic skiing. Venture to Newport State Park (40 Miles) for the most remote classic experience. Reasonable skating trails can be found at Peninsula Park (when there is adequate snow), with an incredibly hilly assortment of terrain. Note that if there is low snow SNOWKRAFT and Crossroads will be the best areas to diagonal and skate.

Don't miss out on skiing at Crossroads. It has perhaps the most dedicated groomer in the county in Jim Maki, is great for FAMILIES/KIDS, and rents classic equipment for a donation. A downside is the reasonably flat terrain, but that is advantageous for many
